Choosing the right pet for any family is so important but it’s particularly important if you are introducing a pet into a family with a child who has special needs. More factors need to be taken into consideration such as sensory issues, allergies and the change of routine that they may bring.

Over the past year parents throughout the UK have developed a new found respect for teachers because of two dreaded words – home schooling. For many the challenge of juggling home schooling with working, housework, appointments, therapies – you name it – has been a challenge.

A problem for many parents of children with autism is getting them to keep their shoes on. New shoes can be particularly difficult for autistic children to cope with due to a dislike of change and rigid behaviour. 

According to the National Autistic Society, “Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. One in 100 people are on the autism spectrum and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK.”

Down’s Syndrome Awareness Day 2021 is this Sunday, 21st March and it’s important to raise awareness not only to fundraise for charities that support people with Down’s Syndrome but to educate others about the condition. With that in mind, here are some things that you can do to raise awareness.

Sometimes being a parent to a child with autism is hard. Not being able to understand why they are upset or frustrating is heartbreaking when you just want to be able to help your child. Unfortunately sometimes being upset, frustrated or angry can lead to aggression and lashing out. It is not uncommon for an autistic child to hit their parents, siblings, teachers or anyone close to them.
